Make your own garden flowers that will never fade! In this two session course, you will learn to hand build beautiful floral garden stakes from a slab of clay. An instructor from the Elkhart Art League will teach you the basics of slab hand building—rolling out your slab of clay, applying texture to your slab, using templates to create your forms, decorating your flowers to create your own style, and the final step of glazing your pieces.

This course takes place on two Saturdays, May 2nd and May 16th. When you sign up, you're in for both sessions! Students will take home 2-3 finished floral stakes a week after the second session. All supplies are included in the workshop price, please feel free to bring an apron from home if you'd like. 

The classes will take place under our covered Outdoor Classroom. Please plan to dress for the weather. If inclement weather arises, classes may be moved into our indoor Cottage Classroom. This class is intended for ages 16+. All minors must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a spirited evening at Wellfield! Dragon's Mouth Distillery returns to the Gardens to guide guests through the world of agave-based spirits. During this interactive tasting experience, you'll sample three different agave spirits and learn about their unique flavors, production methods, and how they differ from one another. Guests will taste:

• Silver – the unaged version, known for its bright and crisp agave flavor.
• Reposado – rested in a used bourbon barrel, giving it a smoother character with subtle oak notes.
• Mezcal – a smoky and complex agave spirit with a distinctive flavor profile.

After tasting, guests will choose their favorite spirit and use it to craft a classic margarita to enjoy during the class. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to agave spirits, this class is a fun way to explore new flavors and techniques.

Each guest will also take home a Perfect Dram Glass to continue their tasting adventures at home.

Join Wellfield Botanic Gardens and PapermongerLLC for a hands-on introduction to the art of paper quilling! In this workshop, you’ll learn how simple strips of paper can be rolled, shaped, and arranged into delicate designs. Your instructor, Jess, will teach you how to create a small framed floral piece, perfect for brightening a wall or gifting to someone special.

Paper quilling is a meditative, calming craft that requires only a few basic tools but offers endless creative possibilities from cards and earrings to wall décor. This class is designed to be a relaxed space for creativity, conversation, and community. No prior experience is needed, and all supplies will be provided.

Your instructor, Jess, is a South Bend native and former social worker who now works as a full-time traveling artist. She shares paper quilling as a way to slow down, connect with your surroundings, and enjoy the process of making something by hand. Whether you’re joining to learn a new skill, spend time with loved ones, or simply try something different, Jess aims to create a cozy, kind, and stress-free environment where creativity can flourish.

This workshop is intended for ages 16+. All minors should be accompanied by an adult also registered for the class. This workshop will take place in our South Event Room inside the Visitors Center.

Discover something new in this fun, hands-on cultural experience! Your host, LaMonte Heflick, a Certified Saké Professional and tea enthusiast, will guide you through sampling three types Chinese teas while you learn about the rich history of each. 

The Chinese teas will be served Gong Fu style 功夫茶 and will feature:

• Gāoshān chá 高山茶 (Taiwan high mountain tea)
• Lǎo liù bǎo chá 老六堡茶  (tea aged for 40 years)
• Pu’er chá (Yunnan China tea)

LaMonte has rich experience with tea demonstrations and servings and has been featured at many local, regional, and even international establishments such as:

Join Elena from Gather and Graze for a fun and flavorful Charcuterie Workshop where you’ll learn how to design your own 10-inch round charcuterie plate—and take it home to enjoy! This hands-on class covers styling techniques, pairing tips, and creative ways to elevate your presentation. This is a perfect opportunity for a date experience, girls’ outing, family activity, or just for anyone who loves good food and gorgeous boards.

All supplies are included to build a beautiful and delicious board. This class will take place in our Cottage Classroom and is intended for ages 10+. All minors must be accompanied by an adult - please keep in mind that basic kitchen utensils will be in use.
