Enjoy the taste of Japan! This workshop is centered around Matcha 抹茶, a traditional Camellia Sinensis shade of grown green tea. Your host LaMonte Heflick, a Certified Saké Professional, will begin the hour-long workshop by demonstrating how the tea is prepared.
Following the demonstration you'll be instructed on how to prepare your own usucha (light tea) using a bamboo chashaku 茶杓 (scoop) and a chasen 茶筅 (whisk). Your tea will be served in a traditional clay chawan 茶碗 (teabowl).
LaMonte has rich experience with tea demonstrations and servings and has been featured at many local, regional, and even international establishments such as:
- Various Elkhart Community schools
- Apothica Teas in Niles
- Goshen's Memories of China Restaurant
- Spice and Tea Exchange in Valporaiso
- Sih Ye 四爺 teahouse in Taipei, Taiwan
- Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association in Indianapolis
