Learn the basics of silk-on-silk batik printing and create a one-of-a-kind scarf of your own design. Once students learn the basics, this technique can be used to make pillows, wall-hangings, and other fun projects! Students will take home a beautiful silk scarf, but that’s not all—while we wait for the scarf to steam and the dyes to set, we will work on another project doing samples of other forms of art on silk fabrics.
Our instructor, Ellen, brought in by the Elkhart Art League, holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Raclin School of the Arts at Indiana University in South Bend. Ellen has shown her work in numerous exhibitions and has earned many awards in her photography, printmaking, fiber and encaustic works. She is a forever student in the arts and has taken/taught workshops in marbleizing, encaustic, fiber art, and letter press.
Students will take home one finished scarf. All supplies are included in the workshop cost, please feel free to bring an apron from home if you'd like.
